MELE HEALTH INFORMATION SYSTEMS LAUNCHES VISTAASP

Rockville, MD — MELE Associates, a total solution IT provider and systems integrator, has established a Health Information Systems Division to launch its new commercial enterprise as an application service provider (ASP) of open source VistA solutions for hospitals, clinics and medical practice groups.

Through VistaASP, MELE Health Information Systems offers small- to medium-size physician practices a proven electronic health record (EHR) based on the Department of Veterans Affairs’ VistA health information system. VistaASP gives physician subscribers access to their own HIPAA-compliant electronic health record. As an ASP, MELE Health Information Systems enables subscribers to access VistA from servers at its central data center in Albuquerque, New Mexico without the need of an IT staff to maintain it.

As the prime contractor for a federally funded healthcare technology program that pioneered the development of Open Vista, MELE has amassed more experience in health informatics than most small businesses and many larger companies.

“Developing and implementing open source solutions for health care organizations is a key focus of MELE Associates,” said MELE CEO Melvin Chiogioji, Ph.D. “MELE is well positioned as a leader in the commercial health informatics market as a qualified VistA vendor. The launching of VistaASP will expand our portfolio and enable us to broaden our service capabilities into the commercial healthcare market.”

MELE has a solid track record in implementing VistA in hospitals and clinics throughout the Pacific and the U.S. Currently MELE is leading a team to install an open source version of VistA and train staff in a 107-bed hospital and a 60-bed rural and acute care medical center in Shreveport, Louisiana. MELE is also participating as a qualified VistA vendor for the Centers of Medicare and Medicaid Services in a national beta test of the VistA Office electronic health record at an 18-provider family facility practice on the island of Oahu in Hawaii.

Through its work with the federal government, MELE has successfully deployed and operated the VistaASP model at two clinic sites in Hawaii for more than a year. Recently MELE established an ASP data center in Albuquerque, New Mexico

MELE will launch the commercial VistaASP to physicians and clinics across the U.S. at the Towards Electronic Patient Records Conference (TEPR) in Baltimore, MD from May 20 – 24. At that time, MELE also plans to announce its VistaASP Distributor Program.

“What we are offering distributors is an affordable EHR solution with minimal upfront costs,” said Gregory Suenaga, Director of Marketing and Sales for VistaASP, based in Honolulu, HI. Suenaga added that MELE will provide set-up, training and implementation for a small to medium-size physician practice for a one-time fee of $4,500. The monthly recurring service fee to maintain VistaASP will run about $500 and includes 24/7 customer support and maintenance.
